The theme of the conference is "Ergonomics as a lifestyle"

The goal of the Congress is for participants to strengthen relationships among governments, employers and their organisations, workers and their organisations, non-governmental organisations, and safety and health professionals as well as others to improve the prevention of occupational injury and diseases around the world. Safety and health practitioners will learn practical ideas that can be adapted to their local conditions and rapidly applied.

The first HEPS conference aimed at creating bridges among different disciplines (medicine and surgery, information technology, occupational psychology, clinical engineering and architecture, human factors and ergonomics) in order to share a strong interest in the promotion of human factors and ergonomics in healthcare and patient safety.

The UK's campaign, aimed at employers, workers, safety representatives and other stakeholders, will be officially launched in London on 24 June 2008. Full details of activities and downloadable tools and materials will be available on that date.

A critical area in occupational safety and health

The Prebes National Network Event (PreNNE) stands for : networking, training and refresher courses for the Belgian prevention councillors. Furthermore there are 35 training centres and a commercial corner exhibiting safety at work promoting products. The combination of all these elements is what makes PreNNE so unique! And recently the so-called PreNNE (Prebes National Network Events) completed this offer. These major events are organised four times a year , each time in a different region of Flanders. The PreNNE have become THE number one meeting ground for some 300 to 400 participants. The aim is double : to offer the opportunity to assist to refresher courses and training sessions on the one hand and to provide the Prevention Councillors with a fine chance to gather and get to know one another. In order to keep the event as varied as possible a mini fair with commercial stands is equally organised. The participants pick the activities they want to attend to during the day by choosing them freely from a wide variety of training sessions (45 minutes) organised on various topics. The highlights of PreNNE of the 27th of September 2007 have undoubtedly been the sessions on the new Belgian legislation concerning the integration of novice-workers. Some 150 participants registered for it. The next PreNNE is scheduled on the 29th of November 2007 in the Meeting Centre of Flanders Expo at Ghent. In collaboration with the Belgian Federal Public Service Employment, Labour and Social Dialogue, five free modules are organised on behalf of the prevention councillors form the Educational sector in de field of the legislation concerning industrial accidents suffered by trainees, the drawing up of a global training file, the purchasing and staring-up procedures, the drafting of and using of instruction cards on fire prevention. So, enough matter to back any well-intentioned prevention councillor and provide him or her with plenty of new ideas and means that are immediately useable on the work floor. Another success story will certainly be the prevention councillor’s training module. The Royal Decree of the 17th of May 2007 applies to training and refresher courses for the prevention councillors of both, Internal and External Services for Prevention and Protection at Work. Because of its problematic nature - which makes the issue important for the prevention councillors- and because a certain number of topics are absolutely not clear for a lot of people, the authors of the decree were invited to come and explain its obscure parts.

4th European conference on tobacco or health discusses impact of smokefree workplace policies

Deadline: 14 September 2007. More than one in three European workers suffers from work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). European and national surveys report a general deterioration. Muscle and skeletal pains are not minor twinges, but have far-reaching medical, social, economic, psychological, and other consequences for millions of European workers across all sectors. The ETUC has decided to take action by hosting a joint conference with the ETUI-REHS Health and Safety Department in Brussels on 9 and 10 October 2007 entitled, “ETUC - On the offensive against MSDs”. It will be the first in a three-year timetable of rolling actions.

EPICOH 2007 will focus on emerging issues in occupational epidemiology and its role in preventing occupational disease and injury. This will include methodological techniques as well as new and traditional topic areas.

3rd International Symposium on Nanotechnology, Occupational and Environmental Health

The main objective of the course is to provide the participants with theoretical and practical knowledge on safety climate and the skills for measuring it. Through growing human mobility health care workers are increasingly subjected to risks of infectious diseases, which may be long-standing or recently emerging. These risks will therefore form one of the major symposium topics.

The upcoming Conference will take place two years after the implementation of the European Directive 2002/44/EC into the national legislation of Member States. The Conference will be an important opportunity for evaluating preventive strategies to reduce worker exposures to hand-arm transmitted vibration and to decrease the occurrence of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) in workers. This multi-disciplinary Conference will provide a unique opportunity to exchange information between researchers around the world. Special emphasis will be given to preventive measures and to the transfer of knowledge from the researchers to tool manufacturers, and occupational health physicians in fields related to medical, ergonomic, testing, engineering and legal aspects of HAVS.

This course aims to focus on experiences gained from the various initiatives in the Nordic countries. Group discussions will be organised based on the latest research findings and practical experiences. The objective of the course is to come up with a better understanding of the types of initiatives that are most likely to lead to better practice and eventually contribute to a truly “Inclusive Working Life”.

Limit values are intended to protect workers in Europe from health risks caused by hazardous agents. However, up to now, there have been no limit values for the majority of chemical agents- or at least no standardised ones. This has led to different working conditions and levels of protection in the 27 Member States. Against this backdrop, experts from the Member States are discussing the necessity for, and methods and possibilities of, setting limit values. They will highlight not just the scientific aspects of setting limit values but also the conflict between occupational safety and health on the one hand and questions of economic efficiency on the other.

The Congress aims to foster the participation in its different tables of all stakeholders in the scope of risk prevention: public administrations, companies' organisations, unions, Social Security mutual organisations of professional disease and industrial accidents, prevention services, training organisations, audit organisations, universities, experts… to discuss the main relevant topics such as among others: Post-Graduate University Training for “Prevention Agents”, updating of professional diseases lists, work conditions from a gender perspective, etc.

The purpose of the summit is to prepare the World to fight this potentially infectious disease.

Se realiza en estas fechas de febrero porque en Mallorca es cuando más floración de almendros hay, flor que, en algunas culturas, significa madurez, la madurez que nos puede dar los 10 años de aplicación de la Ley 31/1995 de PRL, y al pensar que antes de dar el fruto debe existir la flor, es por ello que el logo de este congreso remeda a la flor de almendro con cuatro pétalos, sugerente de las cuatro disciplinas que conforman los Servicios de Prevención, elemento por otra parte necesario para poder obtener un buen fruto.

Today in our society, wood, a traditional material, and composite woods (plywood, medium…) are widely used in many industrial activities such as: construction, manufacture of furniture, wooden containers, ships and boats… In these industrial sectors, wood working with different processes is linked wit occupational exposure to wood dust associated with health effects including irritation and inflammation of the respiratory tract, asthma and sino-nasal cancer. This symposium is designed to provide participants with the newest developments in toxicology, epidemiology, exposure assessment and prevention of risks due to wood dusts. The latest results issued from the studies conducted in the frame of the WOOD-RISK European Project will be presented.

Preventia is a biennial professional fair that integrates all sectors, activities and services related with risk prevention and safety.

In the WorldSkills Competition, organised every second year, young people under 23 years of age from all over the world compete in the skills of their vocational fields. There are 34 official competition skills and about five demonstration skills. The skills represent the fields of technology, industry, and services. About 800 competitors from nearly 40 countries participate in the competition.
